Durham is probably best known for the Durham University and Durham Cathedral, both of which are well worth visiting if you have a break in the north east of England.

The City lies on the banks of the River Wear, which are favourite areas for walks. If you don't fancy walking you could hire a rowing boat on the river or take the 'Prince Bishop' river cruiser for a gentle trip along the river. Durham Regatta is another busy local event when teams of rowers race along the river.  Attractions include the Hedleyhope Fell Nature Reserve and the Bishop Auckland Discovery Centre.
