Drug Testing and alcohol testing is becoming increasingly common over the years.  Many employers use illicit drug and alcohol testing in the workplace as measure to improve safety.

Why use drug testing in the workplace?   It has been shown in recent studies and papers released by the Department of Health and various other government departments showing the detrimental effects Drugs and Alcohol can have in the workplace.

Recent Studies have shown:

• 76% of drug abusers are employed and the cost of employing a drug abuser can be significantly higher than that of a non drug user due to lower productivity, in addition this can result in lost work days per year.
• Drug abusing staff will have a higher turnover and therefore increase training costs with the possible introduction of rehabilitation costs. 
• The rate of accidents and compensation claims will increase
• There is an increased risk of drug abusers selling drugs to work colleagues and therefore increase the drug related problems in the workplace.

To mitigate the above and help prevent any workplace related illicit drug and alcohol issues it is effective to arrange for Alpha Biolabs perform a pre – employment drug and alcohol screen with any potential new recruits to determine if they have a drug or alcohol dependency.  The test can provide a historical record or illicit drug or alcohol abuse over a 3 month period. If the candidate is shown to be abusing a substance, you can make an informed decision as to whether employ that individual or employ somebody completely different.
